Lady Gaga in a Wheelchair

As I checked my Facebook notifications today, I saw that my friend Cheryl had posted a youtube video of Lady Gaga going on stage with a wheelchair, dressed as a mermaid.. Cheryl posted the video on the mobileWomen.org's Facebook page and asked for members' reactions and inputs towards the event.  The video is below...

My reaction is the following...

Although I'm not in the Lady Gaga generation, I applaud her for coming out in a wheelchair and opening up young minds to the reality that people in wheelchair can be as enticing as mermaids.  I love her approach and I think that I might pay attention to her a little bit more from now on.

  • You like this.
    • Dana Pardo I haven't seen this until now. Honestly, I am really not turned on by her music .. I like music for music and mainly the voices. The true singers are my age and older. Anyway...maybe just bad taste? Sorry..I'm known not to mince words. Give me an oldie any day..artists that have been around longer. :) 'Nuff said.

    • Susan Solman i think it's awesome. Was at a concert with Bette Milder when she rolled out with 4 others all in electric wheelchairs. AFter the concert rolling out in my wheelchair people definitely looked at me differently, seemed less invisable, If Lady Gaga is has got on what I have on, More POWER TO US ALL !!!!!

    • Jacqueline Glijn-van Ouwerkerk I think it's good. Let everybody see that the wheelchair is not a handicap. But just a thing to help you hget forward. I think it's pretty difficult to walk when you are dressed as a mermaid. :)

    • Cheryl Price Mary- LOL, yes she should have had a 'nice' wheelchair! Wendy Crawford- she should have borrowed your Swarovski chair!

    • Lani Deauville I'm not gaga over Gaga, but let's face it -- if she was a mermaid out of the water, a wheelchair would be a necessity! I wasn't ofended. Question: if there are mermaids, why aren't there mermen?

Cheryl, thanks for this posting.. Like most everyone on this post, I'm not much of a Lady Gaga fan, however, I think this stunt she pulled is brilliant. Mermaids are sex symbols among the pirates. They are beautiful, enticing women.. although the wheelchair wasn't much of a sexy choice, her portrayal of a mermaid reminds me that when I first got hurt, and woke up from my coma, one of my first thoughts were, "Wow, i'm just like a mermaid, now." I think it's her way of opening young minds and I applaud her for it!!

    • Grant Johnson in my opinion, she is very much a different person as far as her outfits go,so with her wearing the mermaid costume an being unable to walk cue up the chair ...biggest point is they brought egg's to a concert looking for a reason to throw them cue in the chair again ....im not offended and im not a gaga fan .....these are chairs with wheels used for a variety of uses !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
