I have started the new calendar year with a companion - a bug that has knocked me on my back in bed for the last couple of days. After self medicating (I know, I know tsc, tsc) and taking advantage of the rest I was forced to take, I'm finally feeling a lot better... Will probably be back to 80-85% on Friday.... My birthday!
It's no secret that I watch lots of TV shows and movies. I love them. I'm inspired by them and it reflects in my writing sometimes. One of my most favorite shows is Parenthood. I can't go through an entire episode with dry eyes. It wasn't until recently after re-watching Parenthood, the movie that I made the connection with the show and the movie. Two days prior to that I had watched the original version of You've Got Mail which is called The Shop Around The Corner and I felt so betrayed and in shock. I know about many classics being remade but realized I'm still in the dark about so many. Do I have to research every movie title I have ever seen? Well, still feeling disappointed by the lack of creativity of new Hollywood, I stumbled across Parenthood, the movie, and I admit that for a couple of days, I was not a happy camper to think that the characters and story line I have fallen for so deeply are not that original.... Until tonight.
Tonight was their first new episode since the holiday break and I recognized some aspects from the movie, however I admire the courage of the writers to dig deeper into each character's personality and play with the original story line in a more trendy, relatable 2010's kinda way. Each episode is refreshingly captivating, touching and complex. It's the family dynamic that is almost real, palpable and believable, if it wasn't a tv show.
I'm ecstatic they are back on schedule.. My Tuesday nights were missing the Bravermans.
